Mild Weather for Father’s Day as Australia has a Cold Start to Spring

Overview

As the first day of spring and Father’s Day approach, Australians can expect a cold start to the season. While the Bureau of Meteorology predicts a warmer and drier spring overall, this weekend’s temperatures are expected to be subdued in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide. Only Brisbane will experience temperatures in the mid-20s. Additionally, storm season is on the way, as indicated by a recent thunderstorm in New South Wales and parts of Queensland and Victoria. This storm serves as a precursor to what Australians can expect in the coming spring months.

Weather Forecast

Sydney

Sydneysiders will experience a chillier start to spring on Friday, with temperatures dropping as low as 5°C in the west and 10°C in the city. Throughout the day, temperatures will rise to a maximum of 21°C in Penrith and 20°C in the CBD. There is a slight chance of morning showers, especially along the coast, and windy conditions are expected. On the weekend and Father’s Day, the city can expect a high of 19°C and a minimum of 9°C. Fortunately, there is only a five percent chance of rain, and overall, it will be a pleasant day with little cloud cover. The weather may even be warm enough for a trip to the beach.

Melbourne

Melburnians won’t be spared from the cold on the first day of spring, with temperatures struggling to reach 15°C during the day and dropping to 4°C overnight. Friday will be a dreary day with cloud cover and a medium chance of showers in the Dandenongs. However, by Sunday, the weather will clear up, and temperatures will reach a comfortable 20°C with no clouds in the sky. This weekend also marks the start of the AFL finals, adding excitement to the otherwise chilly weather.

Brisbane

Southeast Queensland will be the only state to enjoy warmer weather. Friday will see the mercury rising to a minimum of 14°C and a maximum of 28°C after days of stormy weather. A light wind is expected to cool things off in the afternoon. Temperatures will drop slightly over the weekend, with Saturday’s high expected to be 24°C. On Father’s Day, Brisbane fathers are in for a treat with a partly cloudy day and temperatures reaching 25°C.

Perth

Perth will experience a rainy start to spring, with up to 15mm of rainfall forecasted over the next three days. Showers will develop on Friday, accompanied by winds of up to 35km/h. The rain will become more drizzly on Saturday, and Sunday has a “very high” chance of showers. Throughout the weekend, temperatures will decrease, with a high of 23°C on Friday, 20°C on Saturday, and 18°C on Sunday.

Adelaide

Adelaide will greet the first day of spring with cloudy weather and temperatures ranging from a subdued maximum of 17°C to a chilly minimum of 8°C. Saturday will bring sunshine and warmer temperatures, reaching a maximum of 21°C with a minimum of 9°C. The best weather of the week is reserved for Father’s Day, with no clouds in the forecast and a maximum temperature of 24°C.

Editorial – Embracing the Change

The arrival of spring typically brings a sense of rejuvenation, with blossoming flowers, longer days, and warmer weather. However, Australians will have to endure a colder start to the season this year. While it may be tempting to grumble about this delay in the arrival of balmy days, there is an opportunity to embrace the change and appreciate the unique beauty that a cold start to spring can offer. Instead of rushing into summer activities, this weekend presents an opportunity to cozy up indoors, engage in autumn-inspired activities like baking or reading, and make the most of the remaining cool weather before the heat sets in.

Advice – Preparing for Spring

As we bid farewell to winter and prepare for the arrival of spring, it is essential to remember that it is a transitional season. While some days may be warm and sunny, others may still hold a hint of winter chill. To make the most of this season, it is advisable to dress in layers that can be easily shed as the day warms up. Additionally, with storm season on the horizon, it is crucial to stay informed about weather forecasts and be prepared for potential thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Lastly, while spring brings the promise of warmer days, it is also a time when allergies may flare up due to the pollen in the air. Those prone to seasonal allergies should take necessary precautions and consult healthcare professionals if needed. By embracing these tips and adjusting our expectations for a colder start to spring, Australians can make the most of the season and navigate the transitional weather with ease.
