Tennis Wimbledon 2023: Day 5 Order of Play and Schedule
Four of the biggest names competing at Wimbledon this year are in action on Friday as Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, and Aryna Sabalenka bid for a place in the fourth round. The quartet – who make up the top two seeds in the men’s and women’s draws – face some tricky tests on the show courts. There is also the small matter of Andy Murray resuming against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
As Day 5 of Wimbledon unfolds, fans are eagerly looking forward to witnessing some sensational matches between tennis superstars. Novak Djokovic, seven-time champion and defending champion, will go head-to-head with Stan Wawrinka, while the women’s top seed, Iga Swiatek, will face Petra Martic.
Top Men’s Match – Stan Wawrinka v Novak Djokovic
The match between Wawrinka and Djokovic promises to be an epic clash on Centre Court. Although Djokovic is the favorite at SW19, with his impressive track record and 23 Grand Slam titles under his belt, Wawrinka has recently experienced a surge in performance. The 38-year-old Swiss player has defeated Emil Ruusuvuori and No. 29 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry to reach this stage. Their first-ever grass court meeting will test Djokovic’s dominance and showcase Wawrinka’s major-winning skills on grass.
Top Women’s Match – Iga Swiatek v Petra Martic
Iga Swiatek, the world No. 1, has been in outstanding form at Wimbledon, not dropping a set and conceding only six games in her first two matches. However, she will face a challenge in Petra Martic, a seeded player and a grass-court specialist. Swiatek’s previous performances at Wimbledon have not been as impressive, with her best result being a fourth-round exit in 2021. Can 32-year-old Martic, with her grass-court pedigree and experience, cause an upset and derail Swiatek’s quest for the title?
Brit Watch
Andy Murray, the British tennis sensation, will be the main attraction for the home fans as he resumes his match against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Murray leads 6-7(3) 7-6(2) 6-4 and hopes to clinch victory despite an injury scare. British No. 1 Cameron Norrie will also be playing against Christopher Eubanks in his quest to please the home crowd.
