Shannen Doherty Bravely Shares Her Cancer Diagnosis
Shannen Doherty, who played the role of Brenda in Beverly Hills 90210 and Prue in Charmed, has revealed that her stage four cancer has spread to her brain. In an Instagram post, she shared candid footage of her treatment, including being fitted with an immobilisation mask for radiation treatment. The mask ensures that the patient’s head doesn’t move during radiation treatment, thus allowing for the radiation to target the same areas accurately. This week, Doherty revealed that her CT scan showed the cancer‘s spread to her brain. “This is what cancer can look like,” she wrote.
Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Update
Shannen was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015, underwent the mastectomy and chemotherapy and radiation treatment and had been in remission. In 2020, she appeared on Good Morning America and revealed that she had stage four cancer. Shannen underwent treatment, which she has yet to update on.
Doherty wanted to educate people on cancer and how it affects individuals. She hoped that by sharing her experience, she can encourage people to have regular check-ups, get mammograms, and not let the fear of the disease get the better of them. Doherty has great doctors and mentioned that the timing of her cancer spread to her brain coincided with a lot going on in her life.
