Acknowledging Aboriginal Traditions
The Acknowledgement of Country by Aunty Gail Smith, a proud Goori Gulbun from the Dunghutti nation, is a symbol of respect for the deep, rich history of Aboriginal people in the region. This is a unique identity established by the interplay of culture, economic, social, and deep history of people in the region. The airport planned should serve as a gateway for those visiting our shores, connect with many of Australia’s First People, and respect the Cabrogal people and their connection to the land, waters, and culture.
Milestones in Construction Progress
The Western Sydney International Airport‘s construction progress has reached the halfway point and is on track to commence in late 2026, with freight and the movement of people. Over $400 million has been awarded to businesses in Western Sydney for the work that has happened on the site. Construction of the airport has already created over 4,300 direct jobs with over 11,000 direct and indirect jobs expected to be created throughout the construction period.
The airport is seen as a transformational infrastructure project for Western Sydney, and it is expected to change the focus from always looking inwards towards the east and towards the city and look outwards towards Western Sydney, where most of the population of this great global city live.
Qantas and Jetstar Agreement
The signing of the Qantas and Jetstar agreement with the Western Sydney International Airport is an important milestone for the airport project. The partnership is expected to support over 25,000 flights, carrying more than 4 million passengers through Western Sydney International Airport each year. The commitment will create at least 700 new jobs, including pilots, catering staff, flight attendants, baggage handlers, and other staff who will operate here, providing an enormous difference to the lives of people in Western Sydney.
Vision for the Future of Western Sydney
The development of the Western Sydney International Airport is seen as a means of improving members’ lives in real, practical ways. The airport‘s construction will create job opportunities that can become careers, and houses that can become homes. The airport can likely boost productivity and growth in Western Sydney, enabling better economic activity and jobs where it is needed the most.
Advancing Aboriginal People
The Western Sydney airport is committed to respect the culture and history of Aboriginal people, which will enable a unique future of the continuous story. The airport project’s work with the community in planning and exciting visions of the airport is a key triangled action driven by mutual respect.
