Fable, Xbox‘s Long-Awaited Fantasy RPG, Reveals New Trailer After Being MIA
The much-anticipated Fable game has just teased fans after being quiet for a while. During the Summer Game Fest 2023, gamers had a tantalizing glimpse of the newly-released Fable game through a CG featuring Richard Ayoade from The IT Crowd, alongside a brief preview of in-game footage. The game’s developer, Playground Games, previously crafted the Forza Horizon series, which boasts stunning open-world features and soft coup over Forza Motorsport; it’s no surprise that Fable is also utilizing its subtractions, including game engine and tools, to craft a new fantasy RPG.
The Game Teaser: Brief but Intriguing
Despite the newly-released CG featuring Richard Ayoade as a giant called Dave, scattered within are fleeting glances of the game’s actual footage, such as a female lead character wielding a sword and blasting foes with fireballs. Unfortunately, the trailer ended so quickly that players hardly had time to be wowed. It’s been over a decade since the last Fable game was released on Xbox 360, leaving fans with only spin-offs like 2017’s free-to-play card game Fable Fortune and the Kinect-focused Fable: The Journey to satiate their desire for more content. Fable‘s original developer, Lionhead Studios, also shuttered shortly after the multiplayer Fable Legends project’s cancellation in 2016.
Continued Development and Launch Details
The new Fable by Playground Games is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Additionally, Microsoft has announced that the first-party Xbox games, including the Fable reboot, will be available on Xbox Game Pass when the game launches. This could help raise the visibility of Game Pass, which has faced bad press recently due to its slow cataloguing of big exclusives and AAA games.
Editorial and Advice
The reveal of the Fable game teaser has both fans and industry experts buzzing with anticipation, despite its brief glimpses. The previous games in the series have granted immense freedom to players, with quests that have caused significant impacts on the world in which they’re played. Undoubtedly, the upcoming game will also provide similar experiences, albeit with more polished visuals and smoother gameplay. The fact that it’s in the right hands, Playground Games, gives players hope that the spirit of the game series will be upheld.
Although the teaser has left fans thirsting for more, it’s important to remember that it’s only a minute-long clip. While waiting, fans should enjoy the many other quality games available and remember that building exceptional games isn’t an overnight endeavor. Expectations should also be tempered to avoid disappointment, as even the best games have flaws. Gamers should keep an eye out for more Fable news, which will undoubtedly be forthcoming in the next few months.
