Lewis Hamilton and his urge to take chunks out of Red Bull

Lewis Hamilton had quite a successful day at the Spanish Grand Prix, finishing second behind Max Verstappen, which is considered one of his best showings of the season so far. Nevertheless, Hamilton is looking to improve his performance and has urged his team to start taking “big chunks” out of the Red Bull team.

Challenging Red Bull’s Dominance

After the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton explained that with the current car, he does not think they will be matching Red Bull’s performance. He, however, assured fans that the team is working on improving the car, and they have something in the pipeline moving forwards. Hamilton emphasized that they need to be taking in big chunks out of Red Bull with every step they take to narrow the current gap between them.

Hamilton aims to challenge Red Bull by the end of the year, but he is more focused on having the car ready to rival them from day one next season. He added that the work they do on the car this year is critical, as it lays the foundation for their future performance.

Hamilton’s Constructive Criticism

Hamilton acknowledged that Red Bull is currently so far ahead that he believes they will continue to win this year. However, he expressed concern that this gives Red Bull an advantage, as they can start on their development for next year sooner than anyone else. Hamilton urged his team to lift the overall performance of the car to narrow the gap.

The seven-time world champion is impressed with his car’s performance at the latest Grand Prix and encouraged by Mercedes’ recent progress. He is optimistic about their performance in the next few races, adding that they understand the car better now than they did previously.

Mercedes’ Response

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has echoed Hamilton’s sentiments, acknowledging that Mercedes is still a long way behind Red Bull. Wolff believes the team now has the car to narrow the gap between them and Red Bull. He added that Mercedes needed a wake-up call earlier this season, but now they have woken up, and the W14 is a good car.

Verdict

Hamilton’s call for improvements comes as Mercedes closed the gap with their Spanish Grand Prix performance, and it’s a clear indication that the Silver Arrows are not giving up yet. As the season gathers steam, it will be interesting to see if Mercedes can keep up their progress and give Red Bull a run for their money.
