The Return of Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger, a character beloved by Star Wars fans, has made his long-awaited return in Star Wars: Ahsoka. After mysteriously disappearing in the Rebels animated series, fans have been eagerly anticipating his reunion with the Star Wars universe. And now, we finally get to see him, beard and all!

In Rebels, Ezra was a young teenager, bravely fighting against the evil Empire and honing his Jedi skills. His connection to the Force and his affinity for animals and nature made him a powerful ally for the Rebellion. However, his sacrifice during the Galactic Civil War left a void in the Rebellion’s ranks, unaware of the future arrival of Luke Skywalker.

On Ahsoka, Ezra is brought to life in live-action for the first time by actor Eman Esfandi, who beautifully captures Ezra’s charm and sarcasm during his reunion with Sabine. The heartfelt moment between the two characters resonates even more because of the significant time that has passed since they last saw each other.

A Decade of Absence

Ezra’s disappearance occurred during the Liberation of Lothal, where he was taken with Grand Admiral Thrawn. This event happened one year before A New Hope, placing it in 1 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). Ahsoka, set 9 years after A New Hope, means that Ezra has been missing for approximately a decade when Sabine finally finds him on Peridia, a distant planet.

But how old is Ezra now, precisely? Let’s dive into some calculations to find out.

Birth and Reunion

Ezra was born on Lothal on Empire Day in 19 BBY, the very day Emperor Palpatine declared himself ruler of the Galactic Empire in Revenge of the Sith. It’s quite a symbolic birthdate for Ezra. Taking into account that Ahsoka is set in 9 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin), we can deduce that Ezra is approximately 28 years old when Sabine reunites with him in “Far, Far Away.” Quite a significant milestone!

Ezra’s age is evident in his physical appearance, particularly his beard, which indicates the passage of time and the experiences he has faced during his long absence.

A Sacrifice for Freedom

Ezra’s sacrifice of his 20s might have seemed like a substantial loss, but it was a crucial strategic move during the Galactic Civil War. By removing Thrawn from the picture, Ezra not only aided in the liberation of Lothal but also deprived the Empire of its most brilliant tactician during the remainder of the war.

If Lars Mikkelsen’s portrayal of Thrawn were to come face to face with Ezra again on Ahsoka, there would undoubtedly be unresolved tensions and grievances between the two characters. The question remains whether Ezra can find his way back to the galaxy far, far away or if he will have to make another difficult choice to keep Thrawn trapped on Peridia.

For now, let us celebrate the return of Ezra Bridger. The long wait is over, and fans are overjoyed to have him back as part of the Star Wars saga. May the Force be with him on his new adventures!

Star Wars: Ahsoka is currently streaming on Disney+.
